The Senate Committee on Education and Health’s Public
Education Subcommittee met for the first time this session this afternoon, and
two items on VEA’s legislative agenda advanced.
Senator Favola’s SB 43, which extends from five business
days to 10 business days the deadline for a teacher to request a hearing after receiving
written notice of a recommendation of dismissal, advanced on a unanimous vote
(unofficial vote – Senator Newman was
absent).
Senator John Miller’s SB 324, which delays implementation of
the A-F school grading bill until October 1, 2017 also reported on a 4-0 vote (Unofficial
vote - Senator Newman was absent).
These two measures should go to the full Senate Education
and Health Committee on Thursday morning.
